위 문장에서 'could'를 사용할 수 있을까요?

다음과 같이
일반적인 능력(general ability)를 나타낼 때
'could'를 사용할 수 있고 이 때
'was(were) able to'로 바꾸어 쓸 수 있습니다. 

 

 

(예문 1)

 

She could (= was able to) sing like an angel

when she was a kid.

 

 

(예문 2)

 

My father could (= was able to)

speak ten languages.

 

 

 

(주의)

그러나, '1회성의 경우 (행사)로
어떤 것을 할 수 있었다'라고 할 경우
'could'를 사용할 수 없습니다.

그 대신 'was(were) able to' 또는
'managed to' 또는
'succeeded in'을 사용해야 합니다.
